Keeping romance alive is important - everyone recognises that, but how many people really make the effort to do it? The most effort may go in at the beginning of a relationship. The normal excuse is that the early stages of relationships are ‘fresh' and ‘exciting'. Some people even go ballroom dancing together. However perhaps the reality is that people, both the man and the woman, are both far more keen to do the physical deed that both are lusting for?

This may seem cynical, but the fact bares out the truth. Romance usually decreases as time goes on and a couple get more used to each other. The man may not surprise his wife with flowers, chocolates, of dance shoes. The woman may not surprise her man with his favourite food, or treat. Even if this is true, is it a bad thing?

There may be a case for the argument that romance is just other words for wooing. Wooing people is a one time thing - once the couple are together, and have been together for years, then they can have the kind of comfort and strong mutual understanding that can mean that time simply spent together is as pleasurable as receiving little gifts. Perhaps gifts themselves are simply over-rated? It might be better if the focus was away from ‘romance', as romance may not be achievable or even real - that can be a debate within itself. Whether there is true romance - and what romance could even actually definitively mean.

Moreover, romance itself may not even the goal of humans - so why does it have so much focus, and the appearance of glamour? Perhaps because we are simply told that it does. But the real goal of people is simply to find a compatible partner, with whom we can spend our life in comfort and satisfaction. That sounds pretty good to most people.
