Anthony Bee's Lake Arti is a romantic science fiction novel that takes readers all the way through a prehistoric-era love story and epic battles whose impact is felt by those of the present era. Divided into two parts, Lake Arti features crisp dialogue and an innovative storyline, making this novel a must read for all sci-fi/fantasy fans.
The story is initially set during the end of the ice age and revolves around friends from one clan: Lithie, Cahia, his wife Solima, and medicine man Zola, who uses rocks as a healing mechanism. As Lithie and Cahia are out on a hunt, a severe snowstorm sends Lithie to his grave. Unbeknownst to Cahia and his clan, their rival clan, the Jahol, have found Lithie's body and used the meat to serve to none other than Cahia, Zola, and Solima. At the same time, Vul, the leader of the Johal, kidnaps Solima. A frenzied battle ensues, reuniting Cahia and Solima at the expense of their friends, including the medicine man Zola. His image can be seen in the lake, of which he is now the protector.
Anthony Bee does a fantastic job of incorporating a multitude of plot details without overwhelming the reader. His writing style is elaborate, yet accommodating, so that the plot does not get lost. In fact, the author's writing style has the reader focusing on the storyline, totally absorbed.
As the battle scene comes to an end, and Zola is shown becoming one with the lake, Bee fast forwards to modern times, and introduces a new cast of characters: Ken, Mick, and Kate. Ken's dream is to build a lodge resort next to the lake, and enlists Mick and Kate as his helpers. However, a series of peculiar and unexplainable events near the lake, including the death of motorcyclist, Brad, force Ken to rethink his decision. Who is the skeleton that calls himself Arti? Is he Zola manifested in a different form to protect his lake, his home since the beginning of time? Read Lake Arti to find out if Ken discovers the secret of Lake Arti, saving his friends-and himself-before it's too late.
