It is understood that in today's society, especially within the United States, obesity is a growing concern. With the success of reality programming shows such as The Biggest Loser, and Too Fat for Fifteen, the public is well aware of the issue. Not only this, but the number of television programs developed showcasing the recognition of obesity is on a steady climb. A majority of the demographic audience captured viewing these types of programs are predominately women. What may come off as a surprise is how young the viewing audience is. More and more teens are becoming engaged with the notion of needing or wanting to lose weight to fit into the societal norm.

High school is a difficult time for many. Many chose to forget the years and go on with their lives, while others struggle to attend on a daily basis. High school is depicted in many television series and films capturing the raw emotions that teens endure. What many struggle with is weight issues. As stated earlier, obesity is an increasingly growing concern. Young teens that are obese have difficult complications in activities that many would not think twice. A memorable example which also greatly reflects high school years is prom. When a young teen is overweight, finding the ideal and perfect prom dress can be a degrading experience. Many department stores do not offer extended sizes, or are greatly limited in the selection offered. This seemingly small endeavor can lead to detrimental effects on a young teen's life. When not able to find the appropriate fitting dress, or style she may feel deterred from even attending the event.

Fortunately there are department stores that specialize in plus-size clothing for young adults and who also carry a wide selection of formal dresses. If one lives in a smaller community, or are unable to locate such facilities, the use of the World Wide Web can be handy. With a variety of online websites that focus on consumers and offer top-of-the-line fashion worthy gowns and even bridesmaid dresses, one can find exactly what they are looking for.

Thus, if reality television focuses on obesity as a somewhat positive thing to gain ratings and popularity on a specific network, then one should not feel uncomfortable with their body and should enjoy the luxuries that are offered. High school is a critical time in one's life, and that will be a memorable life long lasting impression. If a daughter is concerned about weight, and finding that special dress, turn to the web. High school and prom come but once in a lifetime, thus one should try to ensure that their child can feel elegant and enchanting in that perfect prom dress.
