One of the best things about Newport Beach is the variety of things you can do with your day. No really, you can spend an entire day in Newport Beach and never be bored (bring your checkbook, though). There are Newport Beach jewelers, Newport Beach malls, Newport Beach restaurants, and Newport Beach shops. Oh, and Newport Beach beaches, which are considered some of the best in the entire world. With that said when you are planning a trip to Newport Beach you would be crazy to spend the time all in the city and not visit the surrounding Orange County areas. While you are out there why wouldn't you visit places like Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach and, of course, Disneyland.
Orange County is really unlike any place else in the United States. This isn't just because of its popularity, it's natural beauty and the abundance of things to do within its borders, but also because it's technically a suburb. If you think about it, Orange County is, at its core, a suburb of Los Angeles. Combine this with the fact that it features large cities of 150,000 or more people, you get a mix of large suburban sprawls mixed with a big city feel. Heck, places like Anaheim and Irvine have everything you would expect from big cities: airports, skyscrapers, and even pro sports teams. You don't get that from most "suburban areas".
So what are the big things to do in Orange County? Besides the previously mentioned shopping and beaches, Orange County is probably most famous for being the home to Disneyland. The interesting thing about Disneyland is that it's one of the few theme parks out there that actively promotes to locals as much as it promotes to visitors. It wants people from around the area to come to the parks, which is why they sell yearly passes for a strangely low price, all things considered. In a way, you get a local feel when you're at Disneyland. It's spectacular, but also rather homey. It's not like they are trying to pretend that you are in the middle of nowhere, you drive in on a major street and are just a few miles away from everything you would ever want from a big city location.
Of course, what Orange County is most famous for is its people. Thanks to shows like the "O.C.", people have a view that everyone who lives in Orange County, and specifically Newport Beach, is stuck up rich folk. What people need to understand is that you will be hard pressed to find a nicer bunch of people then you would find in Orange County. In fact, most people who live are middle class suburban folk who are raising their families while doing a 9-5 job.
