The best way to watch a movie, with technology the way it is today and prices the way they are, is at home. If you own a home cinema system, you are one of the lucky few who can watch one of his favourite movies in peace and quiet, with the best refreshments money can buy, and without the annoyances that automatically come with the movie theatre—sticky seats, loud talking from other viewers, ringing cell phones—these things are not annoying when it's your cell phone or you are the one doing the talking.

The most important thing to remember about a home cinema installation is to remember to keep the connectors as clean and dry as possible, as any condensation or dust can affect video and audio performance. Home cinema systems are not cheap, so make sure you do research before you buy. Also consider the extra cost of having your system professionally installed. This will reduce the amount of time you have to spend learning a new area of expertise off of poorly-written instructions out of a box, and will also mean that you get almost instant satisfaction from your purchase, instead of having to spend hours or days troubleshooting your system when it fails to work right away.

For those consumers for whom money is no object, options like luxury reclining chairs, projection screens, surround-sound systems and extra-large speakers to better convey subtle sounds may be appealing. For an extra-special cinema room, an old-time popcorn machine and a small bar in a corner of the room converts the space from a place simply to watch movies into a centre of entertainment and conversation.

Plug the system into your wireless network and convert your movie screen into a large digital photo display, or consider using it to play clips from family movies during parties. These simple tips will mean that you get at least twice the use and enjoyment out of your room instead of it sitting unused until the new DVD arrives in the mail.
