Most people have their favourite holiday destination, and a dream location, but Monaco has just been voted as the place most people want to visit above all others.

The vote was organised by reputable travel site tripadvisor.com - thousands of travel reviews from tourists are posted every day to provide a resource where hotels and holiday destinations can be checked before booking, and an overall picture can be built up based on recent experiences in the same hotel or resort people are considering for a trip.

For those lucky enough to have visited Monaco this year - and judging by the result many tripadvisor members did and were impressed enough to vote is as their favourite travel destination - the summer has been packed with events.

For the evenings for example, an event that the whole family could enjoy, is the Fireworks to Music competition, where different countries compete by setting music to fireworks - spectacular with a backdrop of the Monaco harbour and Mediterranean.

For classical music fans, open air concerts were held in the grounds of the Palace, and included works by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, with performances by the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.

And for those who prefer their music to be a little more modern the last couple of months has seen live performances by Elton John, Tom Jones, Stevie Wonder and Julio Iglesias.

So music lovers have been really well looked after - but what about those who like sports as well as their music? F1 fans understandably make the Monaco Grand Prix a top event to attend - in fact just last year the Monaco Grand Prix was top of a sports fans wish list of sporting occasions to attend.

In addition to F1, there is a Premier League club who play in the French league, the same stadium is often used for athletic meetings, and each April the Monte Carlo Masters tennis tournament ensures anyone keen on sports will regard Monaco as a top destination.

As well as music and sports, for those who like culture the Monte Carlo ballet perform a full programme every year, and is recognised as one of the leading companies in Europe - this in addition to the Philharmoic Orchestra - both of whom give performances around the world as well as at home.

For accommodation, tourists have a good choice of hotels to choose from, including the Hotel de Paris and Metropole, both 5 star and internationally renowned for their excellence. In addition the Columbus and Novotel in Fontvieille both have well earned reputations, while the Fairmont is a good choice for those lucky enough to have Monaco Grand Prix tickets for 2011.

And of course there is the casino. The finest in Europe and arguably the world, it attracts millionaires as well as ordinary tourists who wish to take a chance on the tables, and for those who aren't particularly gamblers a visit to the Monte Carlo casino during the day is quite acceptable, and many vistors do this.

If you're wondering where to take a trip in 2011, why not visit the world's favourite dream destination.
