There are two types of products on this planet: those that you want to find at the lowest price, and those that you are better off paying more for quality. If you are out there looking for, say, a tea kettle, chances are you wouldn't mind sacrificing a little bit of quality for a lower price. Heck, as long as it boils water and does it reliably, what does it matter what type of finish it has on it, or what famous designer made the prototype? When you are dealing with something as important as a physicians coat, though, skimping on the quality to get a lower price is not really a good idea. Think about it: what is worse than being stuck in a uncomfortable, ill fitting lab coat for ten hours a day? Furthermore, since you are going to be in high stress, messy situations, wouldn't you be willing to pay more for something breathable and stain resistant that will last for as long as you want it to? Why wouldn't you want anything less than the best?

Unless you are in a job where a physician's coat is need regularly, chances are you are not aware that all coats are not created equal. While they aren't terribly expensive, getting a good fitting, well made lab coat is an investment, not just a regular, everyday purchase. Sure, you could go out and get a unisex robe for cheaper, but frankly, since men and women have different tailored needs that just doesn't make sense. Think of it as a nice suit or an elegant dress: you could cut corners, but if you are in it for the long haul you might as well spend the money to get a high quality one.

So what exactly goes into a high quality physician's coat? First, you want a base of fine material. You aren't just talking about regular everyday fabric, you are talking about specially designed fabric that will allow breathability and also repel stains and sweat. Heck, they are even wrinkle resistant. Plus, a good physicians coat will not only be form fitting, but also specifically tailored for the needs of a medical professional which means it will not constrict movement nor flow too loosely. Essentially, what you are paying for is extremely versatile piece of work clothing that will you work freely in without not even noticing it's there. Plus, sense it's developed with durability in mind, paying more for coat means it will last longer and thus save you money long term.

There are a variety of companies which specialize in making physician coats. Again, it's worthwhile spending a little more money on these types of coats because, essentially, you get what you pay for. While a cheaper coat might look more attractive, after a few days of wearing it you'll realize how much things like fits and fabric really means to your work day.
